Cwt-Y-Bugail

Cwt-y-Bugail Welsh Slate, with its unique colour variations, combined with a performance measured in centuries is why it adorns building roofs across the world!

The remote Cwt-y-Bugail quarry has been producing slates since 1840’s and is located high in the mountains east of Blaenau, Ffestiniog in North Wales.  The quarry is now an open cast quarry although originally the quarry was mined.

During World War 2, many of Britain’s most valuable paintings were secretly stored in its caverns for safe-keeping!
