Del Castillo

Del Castillo is an exceptional light grey phyllite slate. Supplied to Spanish royal monuments since 1556, including the legendary El Escorial and the Acazar of Segovia. Del Castillo phyllite slate, formed more than 550 million years ago, has undergone higher temperatures and pressure than regular slate.

As a result, this produces a harder, brighter, and denser slate with lower porosity, allowing for greater resistance to water absorption, acid rain and frost, making it perfect for even extreme temperatures. Phyllite slate roofs are known to last well over 100 years, often outlasting many other roofing materials.

It is a low-maintenance option due to its natural resistance to moss, lichen and staining, as well as being environmentally conscious. Recognised as one of the 55 Heritage Stones of the World, alongside Welsh slate and Carrara marble. Del Castillo combines historic prestige with proven sustainability.

It is also among the very few phyllites to have achieved EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification.
