Game Change Project – Powys, Wales
Independent Slate Supplies are grateful to have had the opportunity to sponsor and get involved with ‘The Game Change Project’, a non-profit organisation based in Newtown, Powys, Mid Wales.
‘The Game Change Project’ is dedicated to help young individuals boost their confidence and encourage their well-being through participating in interactive outdoor activities. This project was created ‘to create opportunities for young people to raise their aspirations and improve their confidence and self-esteem by bringing them outside the traditional classroom setting to participate in fun and engaging activities’.
Our ISS rep for Northern England, Richie Evans, had the opportunity to spend the day with TG Builders Merchants at the Game Change Project. Richie arrived at the project when the group were getting back from Welshpool, where they were looking at conversions of petrol to electric cars. After a warm and polite welcome, they were shown around the site at some of the projects they had done. Some examples were making Christmas decorations for charity and a new garden that they made. Richie had discussions about mechanical training that they have onsite, and the benefit of working with horses.
Sian Roberts, Director and Project Manager of ‘The Game Change Project’ mentioned that the organisation is getting a lot more calls from schools to for help from the project to support more young people. The impact of the project on young people was significant, particularly as some of the young people who had went to mentor the newer groups.
Thank you to TG Builders Merchant for introducing us to this incredible initiative and most of all thank you to the Game Change Project for having us!
